Individualized Exercise Regimen
Whether you’ve undergone surgery, are recovering from or coping with an illness, or bouncing back from an injury, you want to reclaim your life as quickly as possible. At Oak Brook Care, that is our goal, too.
Our skilled professionals with advanced clinical proficiency work individually with each patient and his or her prescribing physician to create customized care treatment. A full range of therapies, a spacious facility filled with state-of-the-art equipment and a supportive environment all contribute to helping you improve functional mobility, rebuild strength and get back to your daily activities as much as possible.
Before you begin one of our programs, you will undergo a physical exam and an exercise evaluation to assess your functional work capacity. We then create a treatment plan targeted to your needs, goals and capabilities. Your plan is carefully monitored by your treatment team, which includes the physiatrist and a physical therapist, and will be reevaluated on an ongoing basis. As you experience the satisfaction of enhancing your abilities, your exercise regimen will become progressively more challenging and rewarding.
Supported Ambulation System
When your focus is getting stronger and retaining gait and balance, we’re with you step by step. Our nearly 100 linear foot safety lift – an overhead track and harness system – is used over ground stairs, parallel bars or equipment to help patients with mobility and balance issues. By eliminating fears of falling, you can move forward in reaching your key goals: improving muscle tone, increasing coordination and agility and building greater balance.
Our therapists control how much weight you need to bear – in accordance with your prescribing physician’s directives — so therapy delays due to weight-bearing restrictions are eliminated. As a result, you can more successfully focus on your rehabilitation tasks and reclaim your life THAT much faster.
Who can benefit from our Supportive Ambulation System?
SAS may be ideal for patients who are recovering from:
- The aftermath of a stroke
- An ankle or knee fracture
- Neurological injury or surgery
- Lack of confidence following an injury or prolonged illness
- Generalized weakness.
Advanced Therapy Technologies
Physical therapies at Oak Brook Care are always evolving and advancing. We’re on top of the latest innovations to help shorten your healing time, increase your comfort level and improve your overall level of care.
For instance, Omni VR, the world’s first virtual rehabilitation system designed specifically for the needs of older patients, beckons you to enter a computer-generated therapy world that guides you through interactive rehabilitation exercises and activities to strength upper and lower body extremities. You’ll expand your physical capabilities, reflexes, and have fun at the same time.
Electrotherapy closely replicates your body’s normal muscle and nerve firings to increase circulation, relieve stiffness, and re-educate your muscles to work seamlessly again following a trauma, injury or surgery.
And electrical stimulation (e-stim) is a safe, painless and non-invasive restorative option for swallowing impairment, which is sometimes an issue after a hospital stay or general anesthesia. It augments weakened muscle contractions to make it easier to receive the nutrition and hydration to help you heal.
The healing scent of lavender to soothe your mind and relieve stress. A therapeutic massage to enhance mobility, increase flexibility and promote well-being. Guided imagery to direct the imagination to aid relaxation and healing. When used in coordination with conventional care, these therapies can boost your power of healing.
Holistic means treating the whole person, not just the injured or affected area. Our goal is to help you not only recover, but regain your physical and emotional health in as short a time as possible.
What types of holistic therapies do you offer?
We provide a wide array of holistic treatments, with a concentration on aromatherapy, medical massage and guided imagery.
Aromatherapy: Aromatherapy is one of our patients’ favorite programs and we understand why! Natural oils extracted from flowers, barks, stems, leaves, roots or other parts of plants are gently released into the environment through a soothing steam bath. The treatment aids pain relief, mood enhancement and increased cognitive function.
Medical Massage: Our licensed therapists are extensively trained in myofascial release and medical treatment protocols. By gently manipulating muscles and connective tissue, mobility is enhanced, flexibility is increased and the healing process is often sped up.
Guided Imagery: Guided imagery, a form of meditation, is a powerful technique to direct the imagination to aid in relaxation and healing. Research shows that the proper use of guided imagery can reduce blood pressure, lower cholesterol and increase short-term immune cell response, while reducing pain and anxiety. When using the technique, the mind follows an imagined sensory path and cues the body for healing.
