INDIVIDUALIZED EXERCISE REGIMEN

Whether you’ve undergone surgery, are recovering from or coping with an illness, or are bouncing back from an injury, you want to reclaim your life as quickly as possible. At Oak Brook Care, that becomes our goal, too.

Our skilled professionals with advanced clinical proficiency work individually with each patient and his or her prescribing physician to design a customized treatment. A full range of therapies, a spacious facility filled with state-of-the-art equipment, and a supportive environment all contribute to helping you improve functional mobility, rebuild strength, and get back to your daily activities.

Before you begin one of our programs, you will undergo a physical exam and an exercise evaluation to assess your functional work capacity. We then create a treatment plan which targets your needs, goals, and capabilities. Your plan is carefully monitored by your treatment team, which includes a physiatrist and a physical therapist, and will be reevaluated on an ongoing basis. As you experience the satisfaction of enhancing your abilities, your exercise regimen will become progressively more challenging and rewarding.

SUPPORTED AMBULATION SYSTEM

As you’re getting stronger and retaining gait and balance, we’re with you at every step. Our nearly 100-linear-foot safety lift – an overhead track and harness system – is used over ground stairs, parallel bars, or other equipment to assist patients with mobility and balance issues. By eliminating fears of falling, you can move forward in reaching your key goals: improving muscle tone, increasing coordination and agility, and building greater balance.

Our therapists control how much weight you need to bear in accordance with your prescribing physician’s directives, which prevents therapy delays due to weight-bearing restrictions. As a result, you can more successfully focus on your rehabilitation tasks and reclaim your life as quickly as possible.

Who can benefit from our Supported Ambulation System?

SAS may be ideal for patients dealing with:

  • The aftermath of a stroke
  • An ankle or knee fracture
  • A neurological injury or surgery
  • Lack of confidence following an injury or prolonged illness
  • Dementia
  • Generalized weakness

ADVANCED THERAPY TECHNOLOGIES

Physical therapy at Oak Brook Care is constantly evolving and advancing. We keep up with the latest innovations to help shorten your healing time, increase your comfort level, and improve your overall level of care.

For instance, Omni VR, the world’s first virtual rehabilitation system designed specifically for the needs of older patients, allows you to enter a computer-generated therapy world that guides you through interactive rehabilitation exercises and activities to strengthen upper and lower body extremities. You’ll expand your physical capabilities and reflexes and have fun at the same time.

Electrotherapy closely replicates your body’s normal muscle and nerve firings to increase circulation, relieve stiffness, and re-educate your muscles to work seamlessly following a trauma, injury, or surgery.

Electrical stimulation (e-stim) is a safe, painless, and non-invasive restorative option for swallowing impairment, which can become an issue for some patients after a hospital stay or general anesthesia. E-stim augments weakened muscle contractions to make it easier to receive the nutrition and hydration you need to heal.

HOLISTIC THERAPIES

The healing scent of lavender soothes your mind and relieves stress. Therapeutic massages enhance mobility, increase flexibility, and promote well-being. Guided imagery directs your imagination to aid relaxation and healing. When used in coordination with conventional care, these therapies can boost your healing power.

Holistic means treating the whole person, not just the injured or affected area. Our goal is to help you regain your physical and emotional health in as short a time as possible.

WHAT TYPES OF HOLISTIC THERAPIES DO YOU OFFER?

We provide a wide array of holistic treatments, with a concentration on aromatherapy, medical massage, and guided imagery.

Aromatherapy: Aromatherapy is one of our patients’ favorite programs, and we understand why! Natural oils extracted from flowers, barks, stems, leaves, roots, and other parts of plants are gently released into the environment through a soothing steam bath. The treatment aids pain relief, mood enhancement, and cognitive function.

Medical Massage: Our licensed therapists are extensively trained in myofascial release and medical treatment protocols. By gently manipulating muscles and connective tissue, their work enhances mobility, increases flexibility, and speeds up the healing process.

Guided Imagery: A form of meditation, guided imagery is a powerful technique that directs the mind to follow an imagined sensory path and cues the body for healing. Research shows that the proper use of guided imagery can reduce blood pressure, lower cholesterol, and increase short-term immune cell response while reducing pain and anxiety.
